OUGD602: Talking To Creatives // Stuart Brown

by Roxxie Blackham on Tuesday, 31 March 2015

I thought that I'd send Stuart another email, as I hadn't spoken to him since January and thought it would be good to keep in contact with him as he works at such a huge type foundry! So I decided to send him an email to ask about last minute studios in Amsterdam, as I'll be jetting off at the end of this week.

Stuart actually replied whilst we were in Amsterdam which was a little bit annoying, but was nice to hear from him anyway!

I came across a design studio in London called Isabel and Helen through It's Nice That and have become really interested in the work that they produce.

But haven't received a reply as of yet...

After the presentation, I received the following feedback:
Make sure your 10 days of experience are clearly labelled on your blog so that it can be found, as you're not planning on doing a work placement.

OUGD602: Talking To Creatives // Lord Whitney

by Roxxie Blackham on Tuesday, 24 March 2015

I sent an email over to Lord Whitney in Leeds, as I absolutely love their work and am really interested in finding a studio to work in that produces similar stuff when I graduate.

Some examples of their work:

Their studio in Leeds:

The email I sent (I definitely got a bit carried away with it):

Unfortunately, they're too busy to allow me to visit their studio at the moment, but they sent me a really nice email back:

So I've followed them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to keep up to date with their work and maybe even use social media to my advantage and bug them!

OUGD602: Tetley Gallery Book Fair

by Roxxie Blackham on Monday, 16 March 2015

There was a print and book fair on at The Tetley Art Gallery in Leeds, so I went down there to have a look around...

Although we went there to look at the book fair, I wasn't really that interested in the books that people had for sale and found a lot of the interior and work that was already put up a lot more interesting - for example all of the old Tetley advertising campaigns that they had framed. I also really loved the old interior of the space and the giant letters that said BREW downstairs.

We also bumped into some people who work at Pressision Printers in Leeds and spoke to them about what they do and where they are situated, and decided to arrange a visit as they were really keen for the third years to know about them and see what services they provide.

I emailed Pressision to organise the visit:
