Stuart from Dalton Maag had told me about a sign painting exhibition going on in Shoreditch, so finally I managed to get down there and have a look around before it finished!
Unfortunately, being at The Book Club, there were a lot of people there eating food and having drinks so you couldn't actually view the work properly around all the people seated. This was really disappointing for me as I couldn't make the opening night and didn't expect the rest of the exhibition time to be like that!
As I was in Shoreditch, I decided to have a look around the area and see what I could find to inspire me, as I was determined to not let the fail of an exhibition get me down!
And luckily for me, there was so much stuff I loved in the area! And we even got to see En Masse Project at work on a huge mural!
I also found a lot of really cool typographic murals around Shoreditch and Brick Lane.
We went into a book and vinyl store on Brick Lane..
And saw a bit of sign writing and gilding..
To Conclude:
Although the reason I went to Shoreditch was rather disappointing, deciding to have a stroll around the area and keep an eye out for inspiring typography was actually really beneficial and influential. I saw a lot of work that I really loved, especially the huge brightly coloured typographic murals! I think that the area of Shoreditch is really creatively inspiring and an area which I wouldn't mind working in in the future, if I wanted to move to London and work there! There seems to be a huge need for songwriters in this area and a lot of creatives dossing about which would be great for keeping you creatively informed. It would've been nice to see more of the Bussiness As Usual exhibition... But at least the day wasn't wasted!
